Core Beliefs
At Calvary Baptist Church, we seek to be a community directed by the Word of God. We desire to be joyfully tethered together by the Truth of that Word.
God
God is the one and only True God. He alone is eternal. He is infinite in all of His traits and characteristics. God is responsible for creation and sovereign over all He has created. He is a trinitarian God existing as three equal individuals - Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. He is holy and worthy of all glory and adoration. All of His attributes are shaped and shown by His love.
God's Word
God's Word is without error and perfect as is its Author. We believe it is sufficient in all ways and leads us in matters of salvation and faith. We believe it is how God speaks and thus carries His full authority. Our mission is to make God's Word known and understood.
Man
Man is the pinnacle of God's creative work. We are separated from all of creation in that we are made, male and female, in the very image of God. Starting with the first man, Adam, all people have chosen to sin and have broken fellowship with our holy Creator. In our sin, we stand guilty and condemned. All people need a Savior.
Salvation
Salvation is the awesome expression of God's love, grace, and mercy shown to His rebellious creation. Jesus came as the perfect Lamb of God. He lived a sinless life and died all sinners' deaths on the cross of Calvary. Having paid for sin in His actual, physical death, He was buried. After three days, the sacrificial Lamb stood again as the Risen Lamb! In His death, burial, and resurrection, sin is atoned for, death is defeated, and God's redemptive grace is made available for all sinners. Any person who trusts Jesus's work of salvation is saved in faith alone, absent from any human effort or work. Jesus is the Lord and Savior who offers forgiveness and restoration to all sinners.
The Church
The Church is Christ's body on earth. It is made up of baptized followers of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to make disciples who will, in turn, make other disciples. We commit to fellowship, worship, and the spread of the Gospel. In the Lord's plan, each member is gifted to serve in the church and has a stewardship of that gift. The church is necessary, needed, and a great blessing from the Lord!
